Some days, you want to get all gritty and sweaty, straining your muscles and getting sunburned as you conquer one of the famous Adirondack high peaks.
And other days, you long for something a little gentler, a little sweeter. A whisper of another time and place set apart from the constant drivenness of today’s world.
Here is a list of ways to romance your body and soul this summer without ever leaving the Keene Valley:
- Take a refreshing dip in the Ausable River. The town beach across from Marcy field is a popular place. There is also a “secret” swimming hole available to The Snow Goose guests. Talk to Wayne or Amy for more information when you arrive.
- Pack a picnic lunch and meander along Deer Brook until you find a cool cove with a nice rock on which to eat by the water.
- Buy a wildflower guide and spend an afternoon identifying the many flowers blooming in the woods.
- Search for riverglass among the rocks on the banks of the Ausable River. When you return home, make a pendant.
- Spread a blanket and enjoy a concert on the grass at Marcy Field every Wednesday at 7 PM.
- Spend an afternoon in our hammock reading “A Lady in the Lake” – a true Adirondack mystery.
- Visit The Frenchman’s Bakery for a wonderful strawberry tart, almond croissant, quiche, and coffee.
- Bring (or rent) a kayak and paddle lazily on Chapel Pond. You may even see rock climbers on the cliffs above.
- Spend a morning rummaging through the unique local treasures at The Birch Store, Rivermede Farm Market, or Dart Brook Rustics.
- Buy a famous “Noonmark Pie” from the Noonmark Diner and eat it barefoot under an ancient tree.
- Attend church in the quaint All Soul’s Chapel in St Hubert’s which is only open 12 Sundays a year – service begins at 10 AM.
- Browse for fresh produce, baked goods, art, and flowers at the Keene Farmer’s Market – every Sunday from 9:30 AM – 2 PM until mid October.
- Meditate on a bench at the Beaver Pond (behind the Keene Central School) or at Point Park where John’s Brook and the Ausable River join.
- Visit the Norton Cemetery after dark and lay on a blanket under a million stars.
- Sip wine and tell stories around a crackling bonfire. Hint: you can add a wine, cheese, and fruit platter to your stay for only $55.
However you choose to spend your precious time, our woodland sanctuary is the perfect place to create memories that will make you smile for years to come.
